Chris Magnis
Dr Chris Magnis was born in Athens on 10 September 1980. He is married and has one child. He holds a BSc in Economics from the Department of Economics of the University of Macedonia and an MSc in Applied Economics from the Department of Economics of the University of Thessaly. In 2020 he was awarded his PhD by the Department of Economics of the University of Thessaly, having completed a doctoral thesis entitled “Earnings Quality, Default Risk, Regulation, Corporate Governance and Valuation in the Banking Sector: An Empirical Investigation across Three Common-Law and Three Civil-Law Countries.” He additionally holds a Certificate of Pedagogical and Teaching Competence (EPPAIK, ASPETE Volos).
He brings extensive private-sector experience to his academic role, having served as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of ILVIEF Ltd. He has also contributed as an external research associate to a project at the University of Manchester and to a research project of the Athens Stock Exchange. For many years he has taught courses in financial accounting, financial management, management accounting and financial analysis, at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, at the University of Thessaly as well as at the University of Macedonia. Between 2021 and 2025 he served as Academic Director of the BSc Accounting & Finance program (delivered in partnership with Oxford Brookes University) and the BA Business Management program (delivered in partnership with Queen Margaret University) at Metropolitan College, Larissa, and he has also taught accounting and finance courses at Aegean College and DEI College in Thessaloniki.
He is fluent in English and is highly proficient in the use of IT, including the statistical software packages SPSS and EViews.
Dr Magnis is currently Assistant Professor of Financial Accounting in the Department of Economics at the University of Thessaly.
His research interests lie in earnings quality and earnings management, banking regulation and supervision, financial stability, corporate governance and integrated reporting, and his work has been presented at numerous international and national academic conferences. His articles have appeared in the following international peer-reviewed journals: The European Journal of Finance, the Journal of Economics and Business, the Journal of Banking Regulation, Research in International Business and Finance, the Journal of Multinational Financial Management and the Bulletin of Applied Economics.
