Overview
The scope of this introductory course is to shape the theoretical background that would enable the students to understand and interpret the developments of the international politics. Therefore it analyses the role and the function of international institutions and regimes and bacic diplomatic procedures. It also discusses basic terms of the discipline of the international relations and international law (State-Sovereignty and Recognition, Exclusive Economic Zone, Continental Shelf et. al.) as well as the main aspects of Greece’s Foreign Policy. As the course serves as preparatory seminar to courses with similar content following in later semesters, it also examines the main schools of thinking within the discipline of International Relations: realism – neo-realism – idealism – liberalism, structuralism and so on. The Assessment of the course is based on a final oral or written exam.
